Post Who is your favorite Doctor Who?

Welcome. Tell us who is your favorite Doctor Who and why do you think you liked him the best. And go ahead and choose and tell us why you liked your second favorite Doctor Who too!

(is it just me or is this starting to sound a lot like a story by Dr. Seuss?)

I will always adore Tom Baker's gleeful portrayal of The Doctor.

Also, I have enjoyed Mr. David Tennant's exuberant portrayal of The Doctor. Often a little tongue-in-cheek, sometimes touching, always brilliant!!

One more thing, I did rather like Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor too.

You've posed the one question about this show
that I've never been able to answer.

    I really don't have a favorite,
but I'm certainly willing to discuss what I like about each.

I have to admit that I have not seen all the incarnations of The Doctor.

I just really enjoy watching actors who are clearly enjoying themselves in their work. Tom Baker sure looked like he was having a good time being The Doctor. And you have to admit that David Tennant was positively gleeful at times, but definitely having the time of his life.

    I'm not sure about Tom.
I've heard he could be difficult and moody at times.
I heard both William & Jon were both very particular, practiced, serious, and focused on their scenes, whereas Patrick was much more willing to experiment, throwing in jokes at the last minute and finding ways to trick the directors into including his ad-libs.

er, that is why I had to admit that I have not seen all the incarnations of The Doctor.....

Better to ask which I have seen.... not very many I am afraid.

But that is why I set up the poll..... and you just gave me some information that intrigues me... now I will have to find a way to see more Dr. Who episodes from the past.
Of course we don't all like the same things in the same way, but that is what is so great about Dr. Who enduring all these years despite the regenerations or perhaps because of the regenerations.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. How did you put it the other day?

Well, I'm just happy to be able to talk to someone about my favorite show since childhood.

Okay, I know you've seen Tom Baker, David Tennant, and Christopher Eccelston.
Who else besides them? Or have you only seen those three?
You know, I think these kind of conversations are fun.
I remember when I started watching the series.
I had PBS stations from New York, Newark, and Philly...
so I got exposed to Jon Pertwee and then William Hartnell.
Suddenly, they skipped over to Patrick Troughton episodes without explanation on one channel.
Then I went on vacation to visit some relatives, missed two weeks,
and suddenly Tom Baker was the Doctor on another channel, so I ended up completely missing the explanation for how all those different actors played the same character.

Well, they are publishing them on DVD now.
What's also fun in these situations is figuring out which episodes you have and haven't seen, and making recommendations.

Tom Baker, David Tennant, and Christopher Eccelston.

I think that I watched a bit after Tom Baker, but I did not like it at all without him. It may have been Peter Davison following the Tom Baker episodes, but I really don't remember, it was a few years back.

It was likely Peter Davison because he followed Tom.
I hear Peter didn't like the quality of stories he was given.
The best Peter Davison episode was his last, The Caves of Androzani.
Patrick Troughton advised him to leave after three years.
At the last minute he tried to change his mind and stay on for another year but it was too late.
He really wanted to finish out Season 21, but John Nathan-Turner wanted to introduce Colin Baker in the last story of the season.

#1 Tom Baker – as far as I am concerned he is Doctor Who

#2 Jon Pertwee - I've seen all of his Doctor Whos it would take an actor like Tom to follow him, he was a traveling adventuresome trouble shooter.

#3 Peter Davison – between him Tom and Jon that is the entire series for me, Peter successfully introduced a far more serious doctor.

#4 David Tennant – Excellent Doctor its just I think the writing is heading for trendy and he obviously doesn't like it. To many mushy speeches – if it wasn't for that he would be my favorite.

#5 Colin Baker – I'll probably get a lot of grief for it but I thought he kicked ass especially in trial of a time lord, he obviously didn't have the budget or writing of the past doctors and yet he did it well – and I liked the idea of a slightly psychotic homicidal doctor.

I'm leaving Christopher Eccleston out because he bailed – which I think injured the series and the damage will show in doctor number 11 .

    Well, I liked him too.

What it really his choice though?
I tend to believe that it was RTD's plan to have Tennant come in
    and Eccelston was a seat-warmer.
